Are we a leader who knows the way, an artist who understands expression, a scientist driven by curiosity, or a creator who brings ideas to life? Are we a soothing mother, an ambitious father, a friendly sister-in-law, a responsible brother, a smart shopkeeper, or a humble businessman? Are we a spiritual Hindu, a peaceful Buddhist, a disciplined Muslim, a cool New Yorker, a tech-savvy Bangalorean, a sweet hilly boy, a shy Bihari, a bold Haryanvi, a defensive Sindhi, or a confused Malayali? Are we an intelligent revolutionary, a liberal thinker, a socialist supporter, an introvert, or simply someone who loves to travel, eat, and post on Instagram? Or are we all of these at different points in our lives? As I stepped back to observe and reverse-engineer myself, and humanity as a whole, I discovered something unexpected. It felt as though the observer and the observed were reflections of one another, as if the left-hand side (LHS) and the right-hand side (RHS) of an equation were equal, with different sets of terms and conditions applied. So the real question became: after all, what are those terms and conditions? What makes one woman different from another? Time is the era into which we are born, grow, live, and one day leave. A person born thousands of years ago could not imagine wearing headphones like someone born today, not because one is a "cooler" human than the other, but because they existed under different conditions of time. Space is the environment in which life unfolds. It includes geography, climate, family, society, culture, the economy, and whether our surroundings feel safe or unsafe. Clothing stops covering the body. It becomes identity. Money stops being security. It becomes comparison. Recognition stops being appreciation. It becomes addiction. The need remains the same. Only the form changes. Without realizing it, we begin running in circles inside the same level. We think we are growing because our possessions are growing. But sometimes only the size of our desires has grown. Not us. Every Goal Is Trying to Teach You Something Imagine giving the same mathematics problem to a student every year. If they solve it once, why would you give it again? You wouldn't. Life works in a similar way. It only repeats the lessons we haven't understood yet. Maybe that's why some people keep facing the same kinds of relationships. The same financial struggles. The same fears. The same insecurities. The situations change. The lesson doesn't. Every stage of Maslow's hierarchy is like a classroom. You are not there to live forever. You are there to learn. Once the lesson is understood, life quietly opens the next door. Then Why Do We Need Careers? This is where I started asking myself a different question. Maybe our careers are not just ways of earning money. Maybe they are ways of becoming someone. Think about it. Do the same work every day for ten years, and something begins to change inside you. Not just your salary. Not just your skills. You. Your work slowly changes the way you think. The way you speak. The way you solve problems. Even the way you see the world. A doctor begins noticing symptoms that everyone else ignores. A lawyer starts seeing arguments from every angle. A teacher learns patience because every child learns differently. A marketer begins understanding what catches people's attention. A programmer starts breaking every big problem into smaller logical steps. An entrepreneur becomes comfortable with uncertainty because uncertainty becomes a part of everyday life. The profession slowly becomes the lens through which the world is seen. But perhaps that isn't the final purpose. Perhaps the real purpose is to ask: "Why was I given this lens?" Not every profession teaches the same lesson. Every career is trying to develop a different part of the human being. The job is simply the classroom. The person you become is the real outcome. Everyone Has a Different Question Paper Think back to school. Everyone sat in the same classroom. Everyone had the same time. Everyone had the same pen. But what if everyone had a different question paper? Would copying the person next to you help? Probably not. Not because copying is wrong. But because their question isn't yours. Life feels very similar. Some people are given the question paper of business. Some are given teaching. Some are given medicine. Some are given art. Some are given parenthood. Some are given leadership. From the outside, everyone appears to be doing the same thing. Working. Earning. Building a life. But underneath, every person is solving a completely different question. That is why comparing journeys rarely helps. You are trying to solve your equation by looking at someone else's variables. The answers may look similar on the surface, but the questions are entirely different. The role life has given you is not random. It is asking you to become something that only your experiences can teach. Maybe that is why we are here. Not simply to make a living. But to discover what life is trying to make us become.
